  • Joel MacCollam stressed our focused, long-term approach to ID no more than 3-4 communities in Sri Lanka and Thailand, and stick with them long-term through at least 3-year anticipated recovery. “We're not pulling out early”.
  • Main Sri Lanka port has reopened. We expect to ship seven containers (230,000 pounds roughly) of food in next 48 hours, available shipping and weather in U.S. permitting to get to Pacific port from mid-US food donor.
  • Primary emergency WER assisters in Sri Lanka include local church alliance, Kingscare (NGO), and Rotary International.
  • We will have fuller response strategies as resources become available later this week, including donated quality commodities and cash.
  • WER is not soliciting volunteers at this time.
  • WER (UK) commits to joining UK charity SHELTER BOXES in airlifting 250 emergency boxes to Sri Lanka . Each box includes food, hygiene items, blankets, sheets, a tent and other emergency supplies sufficient for a family.
