Thursday 9/01 8 a.m. (go
to Wednesday's Report)
WER’s emergency relief efforts continue for Katrina’s
tortured victims.
- We shipped 40,000 pounds (est) of food, blankets, bottled
water and hygiene supplies to EACH of Tupelo and Gulfport,
MS, Mobile, AL and Baton Rouge, LA yesterday.
- Our president, Joel MacCollam, heads for Houston today to
meet with local churches which can use WER resources in their
own outreaches to storm refugees arriving in Houston.
- WER’s office in Tegucigalpa, Honduras is sending upwards
of $3,000 today, a love gift from the people we work with
in that impoverished country, for their American neighbors.
- WER’s Scotland charity partner has a fully equipped
search and rescue team from Glasgow’s fire brigade ready
to fly to America to help, if their skills are needed.
- WER has been offered substantial quantities of children’s
books and toys. We are trying to link with FEMA and Houston
officials whether these supplies would be a priority before
the end of the holiday weekend. Keeping children content and
occupied is one quick way we can help ease tensions among
thousands of tired, distraught people.
- WER CEO has approved the release of a truckload of bottled
water, presumably into the Houston area, for deliver ASAP
the commodity is available. WER has nine more loads available,
ASAP shipping funds are in hand. Each load costs an average
$2,300usd to load and deliver.
- WER expects to deliver by Friday $200,000 of high-protein
meals to Atlanta, where ouir meals will be prepared on portable
kitchens for survivors who have fled to Georgia.
- WER is establishing links with churches in Covington, LA
and Gulfport, MS to help facilitate supplies we can get to
these areas over the next month.
We are grateful for all of our donors concern and compassion.
We urge each and every person to pray … however they choose
to … for the millions of victims whose lives are changed
forever by this tragedy and, quite frankly, for all Americans.
Embargoed until 4:00 p.m. Wednesday

Local Charity Joins Katrina Rescue
August 30th, 2005
CARLSBAD, CA- On Tuesday afternoon, World Emergency Relief
finally got FEMA’s approval to go into the Gulf’s
hardest hit areas to reach refugee sites with necessary emergency
supplies.
WER immediately deployed four truckloads of bottled water,
blankets, food, juice, latex gloves, hygiene items and cleaning
supplies that reached four key Gulf Coast locations serving
displaced families within 24 hours of Katrina leaving the area.
WER’s next goal is to deliver ten trucks of bottled water
pending on FEMA approval and the availability of distribution
funds.
Our founder and Chief Executive, Joel MacCollam, flies to Houston
on Thursday to personally encourage local aid workers and Superdome
refuges being resettled in Houston’s vacant Astrodome,
as well as coordinate WER’s strategy with local churches
helping victims.
WER is not accepting donations of used clothing or other household
items, but is working directly with commercial distributors
to secure the essential relief goods for the victims of hurricane
Katrina. Cash donations will help ship these goods.
World Emergency Relief is a Christian-based, humanitarian
organization, based in Carlsbad, responding to disasters worldwide
and devoted to “Giving Children a Living Chance”
in the U.S. and 23 other countries. WER meets all standards
of America’s three major charity watchdogs, ensuring the
efficient and responsible use of all donations and donor transparency.
