Posted: May 25, 2004

WER President, Joel MacCollam today announced the immediate delivery of $10,000 in cash aid and 20,000 pounds of emergency supplies to flood victims in the Dominican Republic.

Torrential rain has been falling for more than two weeks on the Dominican Republic, swelling rivers and saturating the land. Upwards of 160 people are reported to have been killed because of the storms and many more people are reported missing.

WER partner Integration Juvenil, based in Puerto Plata, has not been affected by the tragedy. However they are collaborating with the emergency services in Puerto Plata to distribute emergency supplies shipped by WER to the town of Jimani (near Haiti border).

A, spokesperson for IJ comments: “We need dry food, blankets, and medical supplies”
